Wednesday - Matins

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

God, come to my assistance
Lord, make haste to help me

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.

Amen.

Psalm 143

Blessed be the Lord my God,
who teacheth my hands to fight,
and my fingers to war.

My mercy, and my refuge:
my support, and my deliverer.
My protector, and I have hoped in him:
who subdueth my people under me.

Lord, what is man,
that thou art made known to him?
or the son of man, that thou makest account of him?

Man is like to vanity:
his days pass away like a shadow.

Lord, bow down thy heavens and descend:
Touch the mountains, and they shall smoke.

Send forth lightning, and thou shalt scatter them:
shoot out thy arrows, and thou shalt trouble them.

Put forth thy hand from on high,
take me out, and deliver me from many waters:
from the hand of strange children:

Whose mouth hath spoken vanity:
and their right hand is the right hand of iniquity.
To thee, O God, I will sing a new canticle:
on the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings
I will sing praises to thee.

Who givest salvation to kings:
who hast redeemed thy servant David
from the malicious sword:

Deliver me,
and rescue me out of the hand of strange children:
whose mouth hath spoken vanity:
and their right hand is the right hand of iniquity.

Whose sons are as new plants in their youth:
Their daughters decked out, adorned round about
after the similitude of a temple.

Their storehouses full, flowing out of this into that.
Their sheep fruitful in young,
abounding in their goings forth;
their oxen fat.

There is no breach of wall, nor passage,
nor crying out in their streets,

They have called the people happy,
that have these things:
but happy is the people whose God is the Lord.

Ephesians 6:10-17

Finally, brethren, be strengthened in the Lord,
and in the might of his power.

Put you on the armour of God,
that you may be able to stand
against the deceits of the devils.

For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood;
but against principalities and powers,
against the rulers of the world in this darkness,
against the spirits of wickedness in the high places.

Therefore, take unto you the armour of God,
that you may be able to resist in the evil day,
and to stand in all things perfect.

Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth,
and having on the breastplate of justice,

And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace:

In all things taking the shield of faith,
wherewith you may be able to extinguish all the fiery darts
of the most wicked one.

And take unto you the helmet of salvation,
and the sword of the Spirit
(which is the word of God).

Dismissal

May the Lord bless us,
Protect us from all evil
and bring us
to everlasting life.
Amen.
