Tuesday - Matins

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

God, come to my assistance
Lord, make haste to help me

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.

Amen.

Psalm 47

Great is the Lord,
and exceedingly to be praised in the city of our God,
in his holy mountain.

With the joy of the whole Earth is mount Sion founded,
on the sides of the north, the city of the great king.

In her houses shall God be known,
when he shall protect her.

For behold the kings of the Earth assembled themselves:
they gathered together.

So they saw, and they wondered,
they were troubled, they were moved:
trembling took hold of them.
There were pains as of a woman in labour.

With a vehement wind
thou shalt break in pieces the ships of Tarsis.

As we have heard, so have we seen,
in the city of the Lord of Hosts,
in the city of our God:
God hath founded it forever.

We have received thy mercy, O Lord,
in the midst of thy temple.

According to thy name, O God,
so also is thy praise unto the ends of the Earth.
Thy right hand is full of justice.

Let mount Sion rejoice,
and the daughters of Juda be glad:
because of thy judgments, O Lord.

Surround Sion, and encompass her:
tell ye in your towers.

Set your hearts on her strength;
and distribute her houses,
that ye may relate it in another generation.

For this is God,
our God unto eternity,
and for ever and ever:
he shall rule us for evermore.

Romans 13:1-7

Let every soul be subject to higher powers:
for there is no power but from God:
and those that are, are ordained of God.

Therefore he that resisteth the power,
resisteth the ordinance of God.
And they that resist,
purchase themselves to damnation.

For princes are not a terror to the good work,
but to the evil.
Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power?
Do that which is good:
and thou shalt have praise from the same.

For he is God's minister to thee, for good.
But if thou do that which is evil, fear:
for he beareth not the sword in vain.
For he is God's minister:
an avenger to execute wrath upon him that doth evil.

Wherefore be subject of necessity,
not only for wrath,
but also for conscience' sake.

For therefore also you pay tribute.
For they are the ministers of God,
serving unto this purpose.

Render therefore to all men their dues.
Tribute, to whom tribute is due:
Custom, to whom custom:
Fear, to whom fear:
Honour, to whom honour.

Dismissal

May the Lord bless us,
Protect us from all evil
and bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.
