Godfrey of Bouillon, Advocate of the Holy Sepulcher

Godfrey led the crusaders who liberated Jerusalem in 1099. When offered the crown and title of King of Jerusalem, he humbly refused to rule as king in the land in which the Son of God had walked. He took the title of Advocate of the Holy Sepulcher. He died of battle wounds in 1100.
