Thursday - Vespers

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

God, come to my assistance
Lord, make haste to help me

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.

Psalm 19

May the Lord hear thee in the day of tribulation:
May the name of the God of Jacob protect thee.

May he send thee help from the sanctuary:
and defend thee out of Sion.

May he be mindful of all thy sacrifices:
and may thy whole burnt offering be made fat.

May he give thee according to thy own heart:
and confirm all they counsels.

We will rejoice in thy salvation:
an in the name of our God we will be exalted.

The Lord fulfill all thy petitions:
now have I known that the Lord hath saved his anointed.
He will hear him from his holy heaven;
the salvation of his right hand is in powers/

Some trust in chariots, and some in horses:
but we will call upon the name of the Lord our God.

They are bound, and have fallen;
but we are risen, and are set upright.
O Lord, save the king:
and hear us in the day that we shall call upon thee.

2 Kings 5:17-20

And the Philistines heard
that they had anointed David to be king over Israel:
and they all came to seek David:
and when David heard of it,
he went down to a stronghold.

And the Philistines coming
spread themselves in the valley of Raphaim.

And David consulted the Lord, saying:
Shall I go up to the Philistines?
and wilt thou deliver them into my hand?
And the Lord said to David:
Go up, for I will surely deliver
the Philistines into thy hand.

And David came to Baal Pharisim
and defeated them there, and he said:
The Lord hath divided my enemies before me,
as waters are divided.
Therefore the name of the place was called Baal Pharisim.

Gospel Canticle

My soul doth magnify the Lord.
And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
Because he hath regarded the humility of His servant;
for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

Because he that is mighty,
hath done great things to me;
and holy is His name.

And His mercy is from generation unto generations,
to them that fear Him.

He hath shewed might in His arm;
He hath scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart.
He hath put down the mighty from their seat,
and hath exalted the humble.
He hath filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he hath sent empty away.

He hath received Israel his servant, being mindful of His mercy:
As He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his seed forever.

Pater Noster

Our Father,
Who art in heaven,
hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done
on Earth, as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Dismissal

May the Lord bless us,
Protect us from all evil
and bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.
