Tuesday - Vespers

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

God, come to my assistance
Lord, make haste to help me

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.

Psalm 13

The fool hath said in his heart:
There is no God.
They are corrupt, and are become abominable in their ways:
there is none that doth good, no not one.

The Lord hath looked down from heaven upon the children of men,
to see if there be any that understand and seek God.

They are all gone aside, they are become unprofitable together:
there is none that doth good, no not one.
Their throat is an open sepulchre:
with their tongues they acted deceitfully;
the poison of asps is under their lips.
Their mouth is full of cursing and bitterness;
their feet are swift to shed blood.
Destruction and unhappiness in their ways:
and the way of peace they have not known:
their is no fear of God before their eyes.

Shall not all they know that work iniquity,
who devour my people as they eat bread?

They have not called upon the Lord:
there have they trembled for fear,
where there was no fear.

For the Lord is in the just generation:
you have confounded the counsel of the poor man,
but the Lord is his hope.

Who shall give out of Sion the salvation of Israel?
when the Lord shall have turned away the captivity of his people,
Jacob shall rejoice and Israel shall be glad.

Exodus 32:25-29

And when Moses saw that the people were naked,
(for Aaron had stripped them
by occasion of the shame of the filth,
and had set them naked among their enemies.)

Then standing in the gate of the camp, he said:
If any man be on the Lord's side let him join with me
And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him:

And he said to them:
Thus saith the Lord God of Israel:
Put every man his sword upon his thigh:
go, and return from gate to gate
through the midst of the camp,
and let every man kill his brother, and friend, and neighbor.

And the sons of Levi did according  to the words of Moses,
and there were slain that day about three and twenty thousand men.

And Moses said:
You have consecrated your hands this day to the Lord,
every man in his son and in his brother,
that a blessing may be given to you.

Gospel Canticle

My soul doth magnify the Lord.
And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
Because he hath regarded the humility of His servant;
for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

Because he that is mighty,
hath done great things to me;
and holy is His name.

And His mercy is from generation unto generations,
to them that fear Him.

He hath shewed might in His arm;
He hath scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart.
He hath put down the mighty from their seat,
and hath exalted the humble.
He hath filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he hath sent empty away.

He hath received Israel his servant, being mindful of His mercy:
As He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his seed forever.

Pater Noster

Our Father,
Who art in heaven,
hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done
on Earth, as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Dismissal

May the Lord bless us,
Protect us from all evil
and bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.
