Sunday - Second Vespers

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

God, come to my assistance
Lord, make haste to help me

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.

Psalm 149

Sing ye to the Lord a new canticle:
let his praise be in the church of the saints.

Let Israel rejoice in him that made him:
and let the children of Sion be joyful in their king.

Let them praise His name in choir:
Let them sing to him with timbrel and the psaltery.

For the Lord is well pleased with his people:
and he will exalt the meek unto salvation.

The saints shall rejoice in glory:
They shall be joyful in their beds.

The high praises of God shall be in their mouth:
and two-edged swords in their hands:

To execute vengeance upon the nations,
chastisements among the people:

To bind their kings with fetters,
and their nobles with manacles of iron.

To execute upon them the judgement that is written:
This glory is to all His saints.

Alleluia

Luke 22:35-36

When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, did you want anything?

But they said: Nothing. Then said he unto them:
But now he that hath a purse, let him take it,
and likewise a scrip; and he that hath not,
let him sell his coat, and buy a sword.

Gospel Canticle

My soul doth magnify the Lord.
And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
Because he hath regarded the humility of His servant;
for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

Because he that is mighty,
hath done great things to me;
and holy is His name.

And His mercy is from generation unto generations,
to them that fear Him.

He hath shewed might in His arm;
He hath scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart.
He hath put down the mighty from their seat,
and hath exalted the humble.
He hath filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he hath sent empty away.

He hath received Israel his servant, being mindful of His mercy:
As He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his seed forever.

Pater Noster

Our Father,
Who art in heaven,
hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done
on Earth, as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

May the Lord bless us,
Protect us from all evil
and bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.
